 |  | | | Kentucky Science Center to Temporarily End All Programming due to COVID-19 | | Over the past several weeks KSC has increased our cleaning and sanitization of all public spaces and offices, encouraged staff to remain home if not feeling well, and followed other precautionary measures as outlined by Louisville Metro Public Health & Wellness and the U.S. Center for Disease Control. Additionally, we ended all external programming and closed our facility to the general public on Monday, March 16. That same day, we also began providing Pop Up Science Days to assist front line workers in healthcare organizations and other employers who are required to report to work.
Following the recommendation of the Governor’s Office and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Safety, we will suspend our Pop Up Science Days after Friday, March 20. Registrations for any future Pop Up Science Days or Spring Break Schools Out Science Camps can be transfered to a future date or issued a refund. We will process those requests when we are able to resume business operations.
In lieu of onsite science education, KSC will provide virtual content called “Do Science at Home” which will be shared on all of our digital channels. Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube for more fun and educational science activities to do and watch at home.
Kentucky Science Center relies on general admissions, field trips, and other programming for 76% of our operational revenue. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensuring closure, these revenue sources have been suspended until further notice.
As such, private and public donations are important now more than ever. Like other industries, we are weighing our options related to staffing, salaries, and potential reductions. A donation to Kentucky Science Center may be made online today or by declining your refund. Your generosity allows us to continue providing science education and literacy virtually through digital media channels. Beyond today, we need to maintain our staff to the best of our ability and continue developing curriculum for school systems, libraries, other nonprofit organizations, and our members not just during this difficult time, but throughout the year. We need to be ready to provide quality, hands on science education for every age the moment public restrictions are lifted.
