Message from Mike Norman, CEO |
Registration is now open for Kentucky Science Center’s Camp NTI and spots are filling for each week. Don’t miss the opportunity for your students to join a new group of “classmates” for supported guidance with online curriculum, organized breaks and experiences in the exhibits, and even more important, social engagement with other children their age in a safe and healthy environment. Our team is working hard to make sure classroom spaces follow all CDC and government guidelines and our internet connection can support the multiple devices being used by Camp NTI attendees. These are unusual times for everyone and we want to make sure all children have equitable opportunities. As such, KSC is offering a discount for members, families registering multiple children, and financial assistance for eligible households. |
| Like many nonprofit and business organizations across our community, the global pandemic has had a tremendous impact on the financial stability of Kentucky Science Center. Throughout we have continued to provide science literacy and education curriculum online free of charge, opened camps in June to make sure working parents had a safe and healthy place where their children could learn and socialize, and opened for general admissions (albeit with limitations) for families desperately seeking a small bit of normalcy outside of the home. |
We want to continue offering these opportunities across our community and support educators and parents faced with new challenges for the school year. We can only do so with the support of individuals like you. Please consider making a gift to the Annual Fund for Science. Your gift is tax-deductible and will be used to sustain your Kentucky Science Center for generations to come. You may also contact our development office to learn how you can sponsor a scholarship for children who need Camp NTI, or a virtual program for your child’s school or classroom. Thank you for your continued support.

Blackbaud Notification of Security Incident |
In July 2020 we received notification from Blackbaud, the vendor for our donor management software stating the following:In May of 2020, the company discovered and stopped a ransomware attack. After discovering the attempted attack, the Cyber Security team—together with independent forensics experts and law enforcement—successfully prevented the cybercriminal from blocking our system access and fully encrypting files; and ultimately expelled them from our system. Prior to locking the cybercriminal out, the cybercriminal removed a copy of a subset of data from self-hosted environment. The cybercriminal did not access credit card information, bank account information, or social security numbers. Because protecting customers’ data was top priority, Blackbaud paid the cybercriminal’s demand with confirmation that the copy they removed had been destroyed. KSC does not store social security numbers or credit card numbers within this system nor is it used to process any financial transactions. Admission, membership, and special event data was not affected as that data is hosted within a different ticketing system. For detailed information about the security incident, please visit our website. |
