Media Winners & Losers

MEDIA WINNER:
Megyn Kelly

Megyn Kelly is joining SiriusXM to host a new radio show.

The former Fox News and NBC star will host The Megyn Kelly Show, which will air on the Triumph channel starting September 7, the company announced Tuesday. Triumph is one of SiriusXM's talk channels, where Kelly will be joining the line-up with other major talk names like Nancy Grace and Dave Ramsey

Since leaving NBC in 2018 after a stint hosting an hour of the Today show, Kelly has hosted her own podcast. The new show will become available to her podcast listeners after it airs live on Sirius.

“I’m thrilled to be taking our program to the next level by broadcasting it live for SiriusXM’s massive audience,” Kelly said in a statement. “My team and I have been grateful to see our show, in less than a year, become one of the most successful podcasts in America — proving that there is a thirst for open, honest and more meaningful conversations about current events."

"I can’t think of a better partner to help us expand that reach even further than a blue-chip brand like SiriusXM, which has always been a leader in predicting market trends and is perfectly positioned for the evolving manner in which Americans consume their news,” she said.

The Megyn Kelly Show will air from noon to 2pm each weekday, starting Tuesday, September 7.

MEDIA LOSER:
Christina Bobb

A host at One America News Network has taken to fundraising her efforts to dispute the 2020 election on air.

OAN personality Christina Bobb has repeatedly promoted a group called Voices & Votes. The organization describes itself as a group working to “raise awareness and encourage community involvement to stand up for freedom of speech and election integrity,” and also to “mobilize efforts on the ground to legally challenge specific rules, regulations, or operations that violate free speech or election integrity.”

Bobb happens to be the CEO and president of the group, while Chanel Rion, another of the network’s most prominent figures, is their chief marketing officer.

The report from Media Matters writer Bobby Lewis notes that the group has been raising money for the widelymocked attempt to audit Arizona’s 2020 election results, as well as audits for other states.

The report documented 22 examples in just over a month in which Bobb told viewers to financially back the audit by contributing to Voices & Votes. Repeated airings of the segment indicate that OAN showed Bobb’s plea for contributions 148 times altogether.

The report and video show Bobb recycled her fundraising effort in various segments, presented by OAN as updated audit reports but with "little or no news” beyond that appeal.

The A-Block

CNN Gets Blunt

CNN New Day opened Tuesday’s show by putting in stark relief the two very different Americas regarding Covid-19 infections, vaccinations, and the political beliefs that divide a very bifurcated nation.

Roughly 67% of American adults have had at least one vaccination shot, short of the 70% goal set by President Joe Biden. But if one looks at how states voted in the 2020 general election, the numbers look very different. New Day anchor John Berman invited Senior Data Reporter Harry Enten to look at political leanings of those who have opted for vaccinations and those who have not.

The segment opened with clips of Dr. Anthony Fauci noting, “What you are going to see among under-vaccinated regions, be they states, cities or counties, you’re going to see these individual types of blips. It’s almost like it’s going to be two Americas.”

CDC Director Dr. Rachelle Walensky noted, “With vaccines available across the country, the suffering and loss we are now seeing is nearly entirely avoidable.” 99.2% of the deaths are coming from unvaccinated people.

“When you look at the map of who’s fully vaccinated, you see the great contrasts across the country,” Enten noted. “We see in the Southern United States that, states like Mississippi, only about 30% of folks are vaccinated at this particular point,” adding, “There are all of these people out there who have just decided for whatever reason that they don’t want to get the vaccine!”

“And a greater percentage of deaths and cases at this point are coming by and large from the parts of the country that are unvaccinated?” Berman asked.

Then the conversation got VERY direct.

Put Some Staunch On It

Republican candidate for Arizona Governor Kari Lake lashed out at local reporter Dennis Welch when he grilled her about past donations to Democrats John Kerry and Barack Obama, attacking Welch and the media — and Democrats for “forcing” Covid vaccines on people.

“I’m a staunch…I am probably the most conservative person in this race right now,” Lake said during an increasingly combative exchange, invoking Ronald Reagan and going off on vaccines.

Both are claiming victory in competing video headlines.
