11th European Innovation Summit |
Debating the future of innovation and technology policy 3 - 6 February 2020 | European Parliament | Brussels The 11th European Innovation Summit is scheduled to take place from 3 to 6 February 2020. Investing in research and innovation is investing in Europe's future, in knowledge and new solutions to maintain and improve the European way of life. That is why the European Commission has set a new level of ambition to deepen Europe's innovation capability, provide lasting prosperity and preserve our global competitiveness. Horizon Europe is the most ambitious research and innovation programme ever and will keep the EU at the forefront of global research and innovation. Horizon Europe will support European Partnerships to deliver on global challenges and industrial modernisation through concerted R&I effort with the Member States, private sector, foundations and other stakeholders. For the K4I community and in particular those that are part of the planned European Partnerships, in the short term the further negotiations until the adoption and in the long-term the implementation of Horizon Europe, are of major concern. For this reason the topics covered by the 11 EIS Programme are closely linked to the work of the European Partnerships and Missions under the headings of ‘Digital Transformation’, ‘Greening’ and ‘Innovation’. Participants will discuss remaining issues related to the shaping of the final set of European Partnerships, internationalization, the future of the EIT KICs including their role in strengthening innovation ecosystems. A press briefing with convincing messages « Why we need a substantial budget increase in Horizon Europe » is organized prior to the Opening Ceremony on 3 February at 17:00. We invite all innovation stakeholders to contribute to the discussions about making Horizon Europe a success. |

Highlights AI & Big Data Innovation Summit |
The 1st AI & Big Data Innovation Summit: From Technology to Socially Beneficial Solutions On 2 - 5 December, the Knowledge4Innovation Forum under the Patronage of the European Parliament hosted the first AI & Big Data Innovation Summit, as stakeholders, policy makers and entrepreneurs gathered to discuss issues at the forefront of the political debate on AI and big data developments. As the new Commission took office on December 1 and its president Ursula Von der Leyen has promised to propose legislation to address the human and ethical implications of AI during her first 100 days in office, it was the right moment to discuss all aspects of an AI future, balancing a favourable environment for the advances and contributions that AI can and should make to our society, with the protection of basic human as well as social and economic values. According to the European Commission itself, the challenge will be developing legislation that reflects European norms and values while also avoiding overregulation that might hinder innovation and investment, in other words, finding the right balance. The first edition of the summit fostered a lively and timely debate about reaching that balance, about the opportunity for Europe to become the global leader in AI and data driven innovations and how policy can support and if necessary, regulate its developments. |
