 By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor Qualifying for Louisiana's congressional races opens next month, and the contests will occur under a map that has only one majority-Black district. The U.S. Supreme Court blocked an order that would have seen a federal judge draw a map with two majority-Black districts. For at least the next election cycle, the state will have one-sixth of its delegation in a majority-Black district even though two-sixths of Louisiana's population is Black. The justices stayed the lower court ruling until after it takes up a similar case from Alabama.
Some East Baton Rouge Parish public employees spent Tuesday with less in the bank account than initially thought. Human error caused a problem with direct deposits for some employees who work nine or 10 months but spread out their paychecks over 12 months.
The FBI is taking a look at the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Agents are looking into whether clergy took youths across state lines for immoral purposes, in violation of the Mann Act.
