| George Monbiot: The climate and the rising anti-immigration agenda | | | More and more people are arriving at our borders desperate for refuge from climate catastrophe – a catastrophe they have played almost no part in. Governments are turning people away, shutting down strategies designed to limit climate breakdown and adapting hostile policies towards refugees in an escalating crisis that violates human rights. As the far right gains power, climate policy is weakened and extreme weather intensifies putting yet more people at risk of displacement and death. Chaired by the Guardian’s Europe environment correspondent Ajit Niranjan, Guardian columnist George Monbiot will be joined by fellow Guardian writer Nesrine Malik for a livestreamed discussion about how the extreme right’s rise in power and the climate crisis are intrinsically linked, and how we can break this cycle. | Tuesday 19 September, 8pm–9.15pm | Book tickets |
