JUNE 4th - NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAYJune 4th marked National Cancer Survivors Day – a day to celebrate the increasing number of people who are surviving cancer here in Ireland. To celebrate this important day, we made a very special announcement and were incredibly proud to welcome Republic of Ireland international footballer and survivor of cancer, Chloe Mustaki, as an Ambassador for Breakthrough Cancer Research!
Chloe embodies our mission and values. Having been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at 19 years of age, she was determined not to let her diagnosis define her life. We see the same passion, drive and commitment to her profession reflected in our researchers, which makes Chloe a very fitting ambassador. We are also absolutely delighted with the news that Chloe has been named on the squad for the Women’s Soccer World Cup. Chloe’s place on the team is a testament to her determination and resilience and we wish her and her teammates every success in Australia and New Zealand. We hope you will join us in welcoming Chloe to #TeamBreakthrough!
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING #SUNSMARTWe’re all delighted to see the long, bright summer days and want to enjoy all the benefits of being able to spend more time outdoors. It’s really important that we stay protected and be Sun Smart. UV radiation from the sun is the leading cause of skin cancer so it is important to protect ourselves from the damage it can cause to our skin. No sunscreen can provide 100% protection, so it should be used alongside other protective measures like covering up with clothing, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and limiting our time in the midday sun when UV rays are at their strongest. If you’d like to learn more about protecting your skin and how to spot skin cancer, check out this interesting article on our website.
