Lie Nielsen Open House USA 2019 |
|
Another quick reminder that we will be heading over to the USA very soon to attend the Lie Nielsen Open House 2019. Terry will be doing lots of demonstrations on the different hand planes and vices we have available, and you will have the opportunity to try them out for your self. We will have some stock available to buy at the event, and if we run out we will be offering free shipping straight from Australia if you make a purchase at the event. We look forward to seeing you there! All the details on this event can be found here, |

Another successful trip to outback Australia is complete - coming home with some really nice timber to craft into woodworking planes. As you can see in the photo below we found some really nice colour and fiddleback. This year Terry took Lachie out to learn the skills of identifying timber species, what to look for in a tree that will be used to make tools, how to safely harvest the tree, and how to treat the wood to avoid cracking. We are very selective in which trees we choose in order to avoid waste. We are very proud that we can turn these trees into a product that is going to stand the test of time and be used by woodworkers around the world. |

We have had some really great feedback about our Front/Bench vice since being on the market in 2017. We are proud to say that not one has been sent back to us. Here is one of our recent reviews: Just a quick note to say what a joy my new front vice is. After seeing your front vice at Sturt earlier this year and after so much frustration with my existing vice I finally ordered it this week. Took delivery of it today and installed without much fuss at all in my 90mm workbench top. As I am sure you know, the vice is a game changer. No more inserting spacers to overcome wracking ..... It's a bloody ripper. Thanks very much - Neville More info on these vices can be found here. |

I love it so much that I'm going to get your front & tail vise. I was just out in my garage shop checking out the tilting jaw in action - man, that jaw works! The action of the vise is so smooth & there is absolutely no racking. It's a pleasure to use. - Dave More details on our pattern makers vice here. |

We have had some questions about what wood shows we will be attending this year. We will only be attending the Lie Nielsen Open House this year, as we have decided to take a year off from other shows in order to catch up. Due to demand for tools and vices, we are in the process of training more people and catching up on making stock. We are hoping to attend a few more shows next year, but will keep you updated as best we can. |

If you plan on planing hard eucalyptus woods or recycled timbers , have a rag with linseed oil on it and every so often wipe it over the sole of the plane. This will help to avoid a hard build up on the sole of the plane of resins and wood dust. If you are getting this build up on the sole of the plane you can simply remove it with a chisel used like a scraper. if this happens to you it is telling you to wipe some linseed oil on the sole of the plane as you go. |
