Judge overrides eviction, gives Loiter Café 30 days to open 

Loiter Café and Marketplace will be allowed back into its leased space in the new Circle East Development in East Cleveland. Thursday’s ruling by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court Judge Cassandra Collier-Williams also stipulates they will have 30 days to open. That’s a big win for the nonprofit. READ MORE

 

Sales-tax break to include restaurants 

For the first time, the annual sales-tax break Ohioans receive annually will include restaurants. Some limits and restrictions are in place, but for those who like to eat out expect to save a few bucks when the hiatus goes into effect. StoneWater summer markets open

honeygrow, a Philadelphia-based fast-casual restaurant chain, signed leases for two new outlets in Strongsville and North Canton. The 12-year-old chain has 45 locations in seven states. The Ohio expansion makes eight states. READ MORE 

 

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is open 

A Tropical Smoothie Cafe is now open in Mayfield Heights. Its menu features about two dozen smoothies under super veggies, balanced fusions, fruit blends and others. Fat Little Buddies closed until further notice after fire

Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood has an abundance of great chefs as well as interesting restaurants and bars. St. Sava Cathedral Serbian Festival 

One of the best things about ethnic festivals, beyond the music and dancing, is food. Serbian delicacies include Burek (baked meat pie in phyllo dough), Krempita (crème & custard pastry), and cavapi (grilled, case-less sausages). Rain or shine. Free. St. Paul Greek Fest

Cleveland Top Chef fundraiser tickets for sale, samples from James Beard Award finalists and more 

Tickets are on sale now for the Cleveland Top Chefs fundraiser, set for Sunday, August 25 at the International Culinary Arts & Sciences Institute in Chesterland. More than a dozen chefs from around Northeast Ohio will share their talents through small bites at this indoor/outdoor event. The menu includes appetizer, entrée, dessert and beverage samples. Chardon BrewFest is scheduled

Batuqui – Chagrin Falls 
For Americans raised on European-centric diets, Batuqui on the Falls is a welcome departure from the norm. The first iteration of the Brasilian restaurant was opened in Larchmere in 2015. Three years ago, chef-owners Carla and Gustavo natives of Brazil took their cooking to Chagrin Falls as well. The restaurant interior has a Bohemian-romantic vibe. If you haven’t had a Caipirinha – a Brazilian cocktail made with Cachaca, muddled lime and sugar, it’s time.  (Cachaca is a distilled spirit made from fermented sugarcane juice.) The Moqueca Baiana (both gluten and dairy free) can be ordered with/without fish and shrimp. This traditional Brazilian stew has tomato, onions, cilantro, organic coconut milk and dende oil, served with Brazilian rice. (Dende is a traditional, nutty cooking oil from the fruit of the African oil palm tree.) Eat outside the box. READ MORE 

 

Dewey’s Pizza 

Plenty of pizza places to try – and we know, ’cause we do try – and it’s great to see their different spins on a classic. Dewey’s offers traditional and creatively topped pizzas – everything from traditional cheese and pepperoni to arugula-prosciutto or porky fig, with fig-jam base. Plus Dewey’s is amenable to mixing toppings so you a a pal can have one pizza for different tastes. Gluten-free crust is available. Parkview Nite Club 

It doesn’t get more old-school Cleveland than Parkview Nite Club. The vintage tavern in Cleveland’s West Side is a favorite watering hole for a reason. Outside of cold beer and simple cocktails, the menu includes delicious renditions of bar snacks from fried chicken to Cuban sandwiches, all at an extremely reasonable price.
