Born and raised in Wisconsin, Joyce spent much of her youth in front of an easel. After serving in the Navy (as a weather observer), Joyce moved to Texas where she studied accounting, was issued a #2 pencil and spent the next 30 years as a CPA in healthcare - her art mothballed for many of those years.
While living and working in Russia for two years in the mid-90's, her love for art was renewed with a vengeance. Upon returning to Texas (still working in finance) she began a self directed study program targeting specific subject matter experts and taking workshops from some of the nation's most highly regarded artists including Ken Auster, Harley Brown, Jill Carver, Bruce Greene, Martin Grelle, Ian Roberts and Kathryn Stats.
During this time Joyce began to have works juried into national exhibits including the Bosque Art Classic, Scottsdale's Best and Brightest and the Breckenridge Fine Arts Center Competition (where she was awarded an Honorable Mention).
That sharp accountant's pencil was officially retired in 2016. Joyce is now a full time representational artist enjoying both plein air and studio work. Creating primarily in oils using an impressionist color palette, she is also an occasional pastelist.
