BACK IN BUSINESS: Embattled landlord Josh Bruno is set to reclaim a slice of his low-income rental empire, after a bankruptcy judge approved the auction sale of six of his crumbling complexes. Bruno’s $990,000 offer for the 25-unit Washington Place was the highest, although his main lender, the Federal National Mortgage Association, and tenant advocates argued it was not the "best," based on his troubled history. The judge awarded Washington Place to Bruno, and his other five apartment complexes to other bidders. MUSIC IN THE MUD: Rain saturated the penultimate day of the 2023 New Orleans & Heritage Festival, causing a 1¼-hour delay that wiped out the opening acts. Still, fun was had, as our photographers demonstrated. And big crowds turned out for the day’s three biggest closers: H.E.R., Dead & Company and, especially, the Lumineers. On a wistful note, the musicologist Chris Strachwitz, who founded Arhoolie Records, died just hours after Jazz Fest honored him.
