The most copied Jewish building in the world

Around the world, there are 35 replicas of 770 Eastern Parkway, the world headquarters of Lubavitch-Chabad in Brooklyn. Meet the photographers who have been documenting every one of these replicas, from Brazil to Milan to New Jersey, the historian who uncovered the building’s surprisingly secular history, and the architect who designed one of the buildings.

Forward culture editor Adam Langer will moderate a conversation with photographers Andrea Robbins and Max Becher; Andrew Silverstein, founder of Streetwise NYC Tours; and Eli Meltzer, the architect of the 770 replica in El Paso, Texas.

Jodi Rudoren will be in conversation with New Israel Fund CEO Daniel Sokatch, an expert who understands both sides of one of the world’s most complex and controversial conflicts. He dives into why many people feel so strongly about Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict without actually understanding it very well in his new book Can We Talk About Israel? A Guide for the Curious, Confused, and Conflicted.

Ballad for Two Friends: How Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan built a tower of song

Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen were huge fans of each other — and the influence cut both ways. One a Jew from Montreal, the other from Minnesota, the two men personified an offbeat style of cool, and, with unmistakable voices, sang some of the 20th century’s greatest poetry.

We're excited to partner with the Contemporary Jewish Museum for this conversation in which we shine a light on two prophets of song, one agonized by every line, another whose best work was written in a frenzy, each in their own ways radical tellers of truth in the Jewish tradition.

Forward culture reporter PJ Grisar will moderate with special guests Ezra Furman, musician; Larry "Ratso" Sloman, author and musician; and Denise Sullivan, music journalist and historian.
