| | The American Midwest has a critical role to play in climate mitigation and adaptation in the coming decades. Fortunately, the Midwest already has a deep well of climate expertise and strengths across sectors. By combining their resources and talents, Midwestern universities, non-profit organizations, government entities and corporations can make measurable, actionable, and positive impacts in the region.
During the past year and a half, a key group of organizations with a shared commitment to climate ambition hosted six virtual think tank and panel discussions, with the aim of advancing associated action collectively in the Midwest. Through these activities, it became clear that there is strong interest in ongoing collaboration to accelerate climate solutions and climate knowledge in the Midwest.
The evolution of this shared commitment will be demonstrated with the launch of the newly-formed Midwest Climate Collaborative, during a special virtual summit on Friday, January 28th. |

Join us on Friday, January 28, for the official launch of the Midwest Climate Collaborative. The launch event will feature remarks from:
- Gina McCarthy, White House National Climate Advisor
- Aimee Witteman, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs, Department of Energy
- A cross-sector panel of Midwest Climate Collaborative founding member organizations

| | Midwest Climate Research Workshop

Following the main Summit event, please join us for a workshop that will focus on the MCC’s work to create a Midwest Climate Research Agenda. One of the goals of the Midwest Climate Collaborative is to leverage the power of science and research to accelerate climate work in the Midwest, and the Midwest Climate Research Agenda is central to that goal. The Agenda aims to synthesize what is already known about climate impacts and solutions in the Midwest; to develop strategies that can inform and accelerate climate mitigation and adaptation in the Midwest during the next 10 years; and to build a network of climate researchers and practitioners across the Midwest to facilitate research collaboration and research translation. The workshop will include:
- Details on Midwest Climate Research Agenda
- Overview of research knowledge synthesis
- How MCC member organizations, practitioners, students, and postdocs can get involved
- Q & A Session
Who should attend: Researchers, practitioners, industry partners, students, and others who are interested in shaping the questions that the MCC will work together to answer.
