Hi John, January is a wonderful time for fresh starts. If you want to incorporate more art into your life, join me for the January Art Challenge, which features a variety of prompts to get your creative ideas flowing. TinkerSketch is a daily sketchbook practice that invites you to experiment and play with ideas and materials in a low-stress, fun, and mind-stretching way. There's no wrong or right way about it. Some ideas to make this easy for you: Print the prompt list and tape it to an art journal. Save a digital copy on your phone. Write each of the words across a page of a sketchbook. Make a 6x6 grid. Fill each square with your response to the prompts. Write "January" or do something fun and fancy across the extra five squares. If you have kids, interpret the prompts as a family. If you're a teacher, invite your class to have a daily drawing warm-up—it's a great way to focus their energy. If this is just for you, try these steps to kickstart your art habit: Designate a time to create each day. Popular times are first thing in the morning, before bed, and while a child is napping. Make a habit tracker: Draw 31 circles or squares on a piece of paper and fill them in or check them off each day you show up. Reward yourself with a new art tool at the end of the month. Give yourself ten minutes to create. By keeping the time limit short, you'll have a better shot at building a sustainable habit. If you feel like making art for longer than this, it's a bonus! Don’t worry about the outcomes, and allow yourself to play! Our goal is to have a great time with no judgment. You’ll start each day with a new prompt, and it’s up to you to interpret it however you like. For example, if the prompt is “stormy,” you could draw a picture of a storm, use colors that remind you of a storm, or make expressive marks that feel like they were created in a storm. The possibilities are endless. More details here: January Art Challenge If you're on Instagram, save or share the challenge here: TinkerLab on Instagram Rachelle TinkerLab PS. How was this email?
