Hello reader,
On Tuesday 26 September I’ll be hosting an event - live in London and livestreamed - with Britain’s former prime minister, Gordon Brown.
Brexit, the war in Ukraine, the climate emergency, a tanking economy, political instability, growing inequality - increasingly these various crises feel like they can be summed up in a single word: permacrisis. It’s easy to believe that turmoil is not a temporary aberration but a permanent feature of our political landscape.
As UK prime minister, Gordon Brown was credited with preventing a second Great Depression during the 2008 financial crash, and has been on the frontline of some of the greatest global challenges of recent years. In a new book - which he wrote with economists Mohamed El-Erian and Michael Spence - he argues that, though the situation seems dire, it is not beyond repair. He insists that through cooperation, both at home and internationally, there are practical steps all governments can take to create a better, more sustainable world.
You can join us at Cadogan Hall in London or via the livestream, as we discuss how we can break out of today’s permacrisis and create a fairer world for us all. He’ll also be answering your questions. Do join us if you can.
Tickets are available here.
Hope to see you there.
