Preston's biggest office block has sent all its workers home after reports that a staff member has contracted coronavirus.
View email online | | | | | Jul 17, 2020 | | | | | | Good evening Most people reading this will remember the economic crash of 2008 when the financial crisis hit. That was caused by excessive risk-taking by the banks caused by a de-regulation of the industry and a downturn in sub-prime loans in the USA. But some of us of a certain age will also remember the recession of the 80s, which led to mass unemployment and rioting on the streets of our major cities. More than one in 10 people were unemployed in that period and the worst thing was that thousands of young people looking to go into the labour market were left chasing a handful of jobs. I know this because I was one of them. Now we are facing a similar crisis, with many young people finding themselves out of work and few businesses looking to expand and take on new staff. We cannot have another generation of youngsters who feel disenfranchised because in the end that affects every single one of us ... not just the younger generation.
