I never thought that we could run out of paper.
Dear John, I never thought we could run out of paper! Hi, I am Kelly McCracken, president of Franciscan Media. Since my arrival in 2014, we’ve successfully navigated many challenges, including changes in technology, polarization in our society and Church, and a worldwide pandemic—Jesus never said sharing the Gospel would be easy! Now we are faced with an international paper shortage. The world’s response to the pandemic has impacted printing our award-winning books and St. Anthony Messenger magazine. Skyrocketing paper and printing costs make it difficult to share God’s love—at the very moment when people need to hear it more than ever! This is the reality the print publishing industry is currently facing. Franciscan Media long ago embraced technology to provide our products in digital formats. But most readers still enjoy the glossy paper of St. Anthony Messenger magazine, our 127-year-old publication. And while many enjoy our books on electronic readers and listen to audio versions, many other readers value holding and turning the pages of a real book. Since Gutenberg’s invention of the printing press in the 15th century, the Word of God has been shared all over the world. But now, with increased costs of paper, printing, and mailing this is in jeopardy. Franciscan Media wants to continue our long history, but we need your help. I ask for your support today to join our mission and share the Gospel through our print magazine and books. Currently 35,000 homes and businesses receive St. Anthony Messenger magazine. And over 2,000 books are sold in our online store each week. We touch lives and our impact is real. Your generous gift today will help ensure that the Franciscan mission of sharing the Gospel through Franciscan Media continues. | Kelly McCracken President of Franciscan Media P.S.: The paper crisis recently found its way to NBC’s Today.
