CHANGING CLASSES: With enrollment falling and operating costs rising, the Jefferson Parish School Board voted late Wednesday to shutter six schools, move two others, build two new elementary schools and send thousands of students to new campuses beginning in August. It spared only one school that consultants had recommended for closure. GRAND THEFT AUTO — The good news is that violent crime in New Orleans is down this year. The bad news is that property crime has increased 13%, driven largely by such a huge jump in automobile thefts that police plan to place bait cars in high-theft areas in hopes of catching bandits.
