Jeff Landry shields public records, but what in the law allows it?

BY JESSICA WILLIAMS | Capitol News Bureau Editor

Landry withholds records: Gov. Jeff Landry has been shielding his emails, text messages and other communications from the public, but he has no legal justification to do so, Andrea Gallo reports. The governor has often cited a "deliberative process" exemption to the state's public records law that does not exist.

Guidry and the governor: Business owner Shane Guidry is Gov. Jeff Landry's trusted friend and behind-the-scenes dealbroker in New Orleans, advancing the governor's initiatives and recommending allies for key positions. Tyler Bridges has this deep dive into how two men came to know each other and how they've worked together.

Heat protection: Proposed federal rules that would require employers to give outdoor workers paid breaks in the shade could prevent deaths such as that of Raul Navarro, who collapsed in a sugar cane field in White Castle last year amid scorching temperatures, Sophia Bailly reports. Some critics question the cost of the regulations.
