Good evening from Crete, Java 21 is being launched tomorrow and we are going to watch it live on YouTube and discuss what's being said in our #java21 slack channel. I hope you can join us!
Oracle reduced their LTS cadence to two years, thus Java 21 is an Oracle LTS release. Other vendors are likely to follow. Java 21 is one of the most significant updates, because it comes with virtual threads baked in and other significant upgrades. We already run part of our JavaSpecialists website on virtual threads, and we predict that all application servers will soon support virtual threads. Since Java 21 is a significant update, we will use our #java21 slack channel to chat about the talks as they are happening on the YouTube channel. Added bonus: we know most of the speakers, so we can take tough questions to them directly, and hopefully get answers pronto. Here is a link to our #java21 slack channel. If you are not a member of our JavaSpecialists slack team, please join here - please also forward that link to any friends or colleagues that you would like to invite. Here is the schedule in UTC time (And a Google Calendar for the event): 13:00: Java 21 review and a big reveal 14:00: Virtual threads with Ron Pressler, Tomas Langer, and more 15:30: CloudWorld Java panel 16:30: Pattern matching with Brian Goetz 17:30: Performance improvements with Geoffrey de Smet 18:00: JDK release process with Mark Reinhold 18:30: Live in Paris and Karlsruhe 19:30: API improvements with Stuart Marks 21:00: Goodnight! You can read more information about the launch on the Oracle Java 21 Launch Event Page. See you tomorrow hopefully - it will be fun!
Kind regards Heinz
