| rantnrave:// The MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW was woke ahead of its time. Maybe ahead of ours too. Sports networks are still struggling with how to talk about the real world, mainly because it keeps butting into sports. I've always felt THE DAN LE BATARD SHOW is the best at doing this. Honestly, it's the only sports radio show I can bear to listen to. Le Batard is honest and he discusses the limitations of the institution employing him and the polarity of the audience listening to him. Talk-show hosts who try to be balanced for the sake of it often sound hollow. Not because of my political views but because no matter which side you're on, throwing in the opposing viewpoint just seems like the empty calories. The voices that will carry furthest and loudest are the ones who don't hide their biases but use them to explain their view of the world. It might be impossible to stick to sports anymore, but it doesn't mean you have to lose ratings points because of it... You let the RAMS in L.A. but... JOE BUCK takes you inside the booth and bathroom for his FOX broadcasts during an appearance on THE HOWARD STERN SHOW... The RAIDERS just lost $650 million in funding for their proposed stadium in LAS VEGAS. It could be a blessing in disguise for the NFL, though. Too much movement doesn't seem in their best interest. What does the ADELSONS' exit tell us about the interest in funding stadiums right now?... BUDAPEST wants to host the 2024 OLYMPICS. Well, not everyone there... The ISLANDERS are the bizarro CHARGERS. How often does an arena get to do the dumping?... Why would you ask KYLE LOWRY not to curse? That’s bulls***... RON HILL is my hero. I run five times a week and sometimes it’s by forcing myself. He ran for 52 years straight... The only college football recruit list that matters... MLB's code of conduct was once so vulgar it wasn't allowed to be mailed. It had to be hand delivered... How do you market yourself to a bunch of dudes (I’m using that like mankind) you want to play hockey with? Scrolling down the adverts, I was surprised by a lot of things, but mostly by the populism--not the lowest common denominator type thing, but true every-skater involvement. | |

Once upon a time, Super Bowl ads stood on creativity alone. Like, say, Coca-Cola’s Mean Joe Greene spot or Apple’s 1984 - or even Budweiser’s Frogs. And then somewhere along the line, brands and agencies realized they could get a whole lot more bang for their buck by releasing Super Bowl spots early. And now, of course, teasers and early releases are par for the course. | |
