| rantnrave:// Loved JAMES ANDREW MILLER's oral history of PARDON THE INTERRUPTION. One of my favorite shows. Spent much of my high school days with it on each evening. Drove my mom nuts. She always asked why TONY KORNHEISER and MICHAEL WILBON were screaming at each other. Two middle-aged sportswriters bantering and bickering on TV about sports turned into a foundational show at ESPN. Who would've expected that? Apparently, a lot of ESPN execs didn't -- MARK SHAPIRO pitched it but it didn't get accepted until he became head of programming. MAYBE SPORTS REPORTERS was its predecessor -- squawking sports writers, close enough -- but that show never felt right. Felt like it was too old. Too staid. Like a generation ago. Wilbon and Kornheiser weren't like them, even if they were peers. They were fun and flighty and irreverent. Production-wise, there's a legacy: rundowns and antagonistic talking heads. But nothing has matched PTI. The oral history podcast does a fantastic job recounting the show's history, its beginning and why Kornheiser and Wilbon made such a fantastic duo together. Sixteen-plus years later, it's still on, a testament to how well that show continues to work... Is blackmail a strong argument to win public funding for sports stadiums? The CHARLOTTE OBSERVER's MARK WASHBURN makes that case. Pay for the PANTHERS' new stadium or else. Or else the Panthers might move. Will move. How much is civic pride worth? The Panthers are on the market since owner JERRY RICHARDSON announced he's selling after accusations of racist remarks and sexual harassment. New owners means uncertainty. Uncertainty can lead to chaos. Uncertainty about where a team goes can lead to threats for city governments to pay up. Will Charlotte feel the strain to pay for a new stadium? The process already sounds broken... From dopers to sign-stealers to football-deflaters, sports is littered with famous cheaters. But where do you draw the line? Where does ultra-competitiveness and ingenuity end and cheating begin? SportsSET: "It's Only Cheating If You Get Caught"... Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night... All the feels... | The Saints’ record-breaking rookie running back has found himself—really found himself—in the Big Easy. He walks home from games, strolls the streets of the Quarter and embraces the good things that come with being young and famous in a great, eccentric city. It seems a perfect fit of player, team and town | |

After watching every second of this Georgia season, a season in which the athletic feats of Nick Chubb and Roquan Smith and Sony Michel and so many others have been breathtaking, I have to say: It is downright exhilarating to watch Kirby Smart coach a football game.

While advancements in self-driving cars continue apace ( here's one that tackles icy roads), flying cars, or something like them, are looking less like mere flights of fancy-or so Australian startup, Alauda Racing, would have us believe. The Airspeeder Mark I, developed by Alauda over the past two years, looks like something out of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

"Is Colin Kaepernick the most stylish man in the NFL?" GQ posed that question in 2014, praising the then-San Francisco 49er for his tailored trousers, trim peacoats, and knack for texture and style. The magazine posted a slideshow featuring the quarterback wearing posh brands like Sandro, Christian Louboutin, and Acne.

Aaron Donald boasts the perfect combination of talent and instinct, long making him a matchup nightmare. Scarier yet? He’s never been better than he has for a Rams team that’s peaking at the perfect time.

The jaw-dropping youth of the Rams’ newest sideline savior is just one of the things that makes him different from your average head coach.

If you read headlines from the chessworld last month, you’d think the game was jolted forward again by an unexpected quantum leap. But to where?
| He’s old, he’s wise, he’s as ferocious as ever. And in this final phase of his brilliant, checkered, championship-laden career, the man who once called himself "the Valentino of the NBA" has been running his mouth like never before. This interview-the last one he gave before his season-ending injury in late January-was no exception | |

There was a moment this year when Jordan Brand fell behind adidas as the second most valuable sneaker company in the country. It wasn't exactly a shock purely because adidas was having a really good couple of years and dominating the conversation in the sneaker community.

Four years ago Nagasu placed third at the national championships. That was 2014, an Olympic year, and the former U.S. national champion and 2010 Olympian seemed to have another trip to the Olympics wrapped up. It didn’t work out that way.

Here in the week before the national championship game, much of the discussion has been about a team that is a) not playing in the national championship game but b) has declared itself the national champion anyway. Credit Central Florida AD Danny White for the sports marketing move of the year.

It's a place where a quarterback sometimes is given a choice: your body or your football. And sometimes, there is no choice; he must surrender both. It's a place where the residents can dominate verbally or physically. It's a place where the bullied have become the bullies. It's a place we may be talking about more years from now than we have until now.
