It took me ninety years to understand Bach’s Goldberg Variations. If only I had ninety more; I’d still not know what to do with them. | | Jazz bassist Marcus Miller in Edinburgh, Scotland, Oct. 22, 2015. | rantnrave:// There are worse crimes than putting 45 tracks on your album as part of a flagrant attempt to juice the album's chart position—if I'm not mistaken, CHRIS BROWN has committed some—but can the chart gods please start working on a way to dis-incentivize artists from asking their fans to get free SPOTIFY and APPLE MUSIC accounts and "leave the album on repeat"? I mean, it's sort of the same as asking your fans to flood the request lines at their local radio station, and no one had an issue with that, right? But it's also sort of not the same, whatwith there being no phone to pick up and dial, no receptionist to answer it and no DJ to say "hey, we've already played that 150 times today, I wanna play some KHALID now, OK?" I love that fans *want* to do this. I would equally love if the chart gods would figure out a way to compensate and adjust... Speaking of CHRIS BROWN, NETFLIX canceled HOUSE OF CARDS and suspended production on the final season with 48 hours of the KEVIN SPACEY news becoming public. Just sayin'... "TAYLOR SWIFT hugged and kissed these guys. So did KELLIE PICKLER and KELSEA BALLERINI. If you choose not to, then that's up to you and your career will be impacted. Advising you to dress edgy is not out of line either"... Feel free to read that last quote on repeat... MICHAEL TILSON THOMAS will semi-retire after his 25th season with the SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY. Which gives you two and a half years to get to DAVIES SYMPHONY HALL. Which you should do... Coming soon: FYRE FESTIVAL, the documentary... The best songs about NEW YORK, per the VILLAGE VOICE and TIMEOUT. A big hug to my favorite city in the world. Nothing's equivalent and I don't want to waste more time. | | - Matty Karas, curator |

What does that mean, and why should we care?

Apple stresses – to you, me and any anti-trust lawyers reading – that other music apps can play on the HomePod, they just won’t be integrated with Siri, meaning you’ll control the app via an iPad or iPhone using the Airplay feature, as you would with other wireless speakers.

Pop music is a lot like television: The good stuff is gripping and expressive, but also beholden to rules of structure and format. A good song grabs you by the 30th second and turns you loose in the third or fourth minute; an airtight sitcom plot is set up in 5 minutes and resolved in under 30.
