| rantnrave:// BOB GELDOF of THE BOOMTOWN RATS famously declared: "I Don't Like Mondays" and neither do I. If we skipped Mondays, would Tuesday be like Mondays or we get the benefit of the skip? I have history here. Let's say that maybe I went to high school Tuesdays through Thursdays. Maybe. I really disliked the upper school management. Why don't I like Mondays now? A myriad of reasons. For all the bitching about the downfall of TV, those f***ers make good s***. And I watch a lot live and DVRd on Sundays. So, in this respect, my friends at AMC, FX, HBO, HULU, NETFLIX, SHOWTIME, TNT and other networks are to blame. Hey peeps, I like comedy and drama but I'd watch a reality dramedy filmed in UBER's board meetings. Even the newbies at EPIX. Have you watched their new series GET SHORTY yet? And I have to watch these early to get into the conversation. So getting up on Mondays is tough. This weekend was worse. Laying in bed watching the worst of our country (and it is a part of our country) play out in CHARLOTTESVILLE. Race and terror. A whole protest of those who find it necessary to define themselves not by just who they are, but by who they hate. Those who see no benefit in finding commonality bur rather thrive off of differences. Not celebrating them. Those content to blame others for their lot in life. And don't for one second kid yourself. I don't. This isn't about economics. But it affects it. This is about race. About changing demographics. About racial market share that makes many uncomfortable that they will no longer be favored "by the color of their skin" but rather by "content of their character" and contribution. Or those that think equality means oppression rather than sharing your privilege. Many legitimately feel forgotten by politicians. Their work prospects harder in a domestically and globally innovative and cut throat world. From competition to automation. Valid. They may feel desperate enough to back charlatans who pretend to lead. Actors selling a persona. Why? Because they feel forgotten. But this was hate. This was race. KLAN, NAZIS, VANILLA ISIS, or whatever you want to call them. Whatever your reason and desperation may be, when you cross that line I have no sympathy. And I think I speak for many of us who missed what was going on in America because it didn't affect us. Or the morality and ethics we want to sell to others when our problems sets are not the same. I was that guy. And many of us led others, news outlets, politicians to swing the pendulum of inclusivity so far right that it seems ok to normalize those that hate. Yes, our constitution protects those so that everyone can be protected. But where is the line? When can you not take it anymore? When can inclusivity and engagement be a delivery mechanism for mass distribution of hate? When do you fire those you employ who get your engagement and accompanying dollars through the proliferation of that hate? Or by ignoring it. I know how I feel. But I don't know where the line is anymore. Where's yours? I don't know what the rules are. Everything is changing so fast. From watching the kindness of my late mother I've developed my principles. My constitution: Live your life. Don't hurt anyone. Help because you can. That's my line. And if the constitution legitimately protects, how do you fight? Should companies get involved? Don't kid yourself again. I'm not. Right now companies are making decisions based on their politic or ethic. CEOs taking stands. And others, looking the other way to gain favor or many who want to speak don't to not draw vindictive ire from POTUS. Policing employees. Calling out supporters. Fathers denouncing sons. Again, I don't know where the line is. But the smart thinkers are starting to ask the question. And we can't dance around it. Even social media sleuths are involved. If someone has no moral compass, don't be surprised when they exhibit no moral compass. And asking them is futile. It would be for show. Inclusion, diversity, listening, and unbiased reporting doesn't exempt anyone from the truth. Racists don't need sheets over their heads to be called out as racists. They can free speech all they want. The false equivalency is astounding. I know what it is. The dog whistles are white supremacist whistles. Wait, they're not even whistles anymore. Just bullhorns. And you heard the "jews will not replace us" chants with the torches? First of all, I'm too busy arguing with my sister over how tender the brisket is to be bothered with them. And frankly, all this jew wants to do is watch Netflix, chill, and order some SUNIN on POSTMATES. The crazies? They're free to smash as many beer cans as they want to on their heads all day or play "who get's solitary" in prison. One of them is going there. He killed 32 year old HEATHER HEYER with his car. Her last words on FACEBOOK? "If you're not outraged you're not paying attention." Maybe these haters will be the victims of the next THE PURGE from JASON BLUM? He just loves it when I pitch him movie ideas. :- ) Plot: "Ok, J. Here goes. The laws change and now ICE deports (or worse) bigoted haters and racists. The End." If not, I got us covered here and here. Am I too simplistic? Maybe. Am I not fully informed. Absolutely. But directionally, I feel spot on. I'm on tilt. Now I know why I bury my head in the sand sometimes. And did I mention that when I dream deviously, I imagine DAVID DUKE's plastic surgeon f***ed up on purpose... So, yes, I was sad this weekend. I slept a lot because of it. And another reason to dislike Mondays. I got up late. Tired from the weekend TV and depression. Ran to lunch with my old friend DEREK CHANG and started throwing back espressos. First of all, Derek, sorry you had to endure that. But the real victim here was SNAPCHAT's TOM CONRAD. I tried to drink enough red wine by the time we met for drinks to even me out. Very old LA thinking. #fail. 2 double espressos > 2 pinot noirs. Lesson learned. I'd say this FEDEX commercial is an accurate portrayal of what he had to deal with. So, Tom, I'm really sorry. But it had to be slightly entertaining before your head fell off, yes?... And on the good side of things: Congrats to ROGER LYNCH, PANDORA's new CEO. And welcome to MICHAEL LYNTON who will join me on the board... Back tomorrow with stuff that doesn't make me grind TMJ into my jaw... Happy Birthday to NOAH TEPPERBERG, PATRICK KEANE, J.D. HEILPRIN, FARAZ ANGHA, SUCHIN BENDER, RACHEL HAOT, WARREN CHAO, GINNY BOND FEIN, and TUHIN ROY. Belated to GEOFFREY SANDS, SANDY ASHENDORF, MICHAEL MCCARTNEY, ASHLEY STETTS, MAHESH ANGADI, JIM BUCKMASTER, CHRISTOPHER GOODMAN, and MATT CIBELLI. | | - Jason Hirschhorn, curator |

What is the opposite of a Like on social media? These days, perhaps the closest thing is an accusation of "virtue signalling." Given the current age, one of recursive outrage hurtling to and fro through online conduits at ever increasing frequency, someone was sure to try to claim higher moral ground through accusations of lazy armchair posturing.

| There's a lot of mystique about what happens at board meetings and a lot of imagined board-room drama. I read commentary or Twitter or blogs and realize that there are also strongly held convictions that there are these evil VCs who do terrible things to mostly altruistic founders. | |

The most studied and analyzed film of Alfred Hitchcock’s career, Vertigo is on every level a masterclass in filmmaking. In 1958 Hitchcock worked with legendary actor Jimmy Stewart for the fourth and final time, and just like "Rear Window," they succeeded in making a film that would enter the history books.
