rantnrave:// Can someone quantify the use of the word influencer? Measuring influence is a funny thing, especially when there are so many metrics to justify. Data can be shuffled around to validate almost any argument, and when we’re faced with “data” as a matter of perspective rather than hard facts, welcome to 2017. Data is speculative, can we deal with that? But back to #influence. Lots of perspectives out there. This story, run by financial services firm KRANESHARES, points out that ZHANG DAYI, aka EVE, has 4.8 million followers on WEIBO and partners with small factories in CHINA to sell her own brand. The best metric here is not the number of followers, but how dedicated and connected her core group of followers is, and how that translates to sales. FASHIONISTA's list of influencers (who happen to be men) includes a range of people, from social media stars to industry journalists to merchants. Some have alternately been all three. CAM WOLF interviewed the man chosen as best-dressed by MaleFashionAdvice REDDITers for two years running. Influential, and he shops almost exclusively by thrifting or flipping. And finally, there is this article from WGSN on MARCEL FLORUSS's trip to MILAN FASHION WEEK, where he walked the DOLCE AND GABBANA runway. The author wonders whether influencers are a dying breed. A worthy question if we ignore the fact that in fashion, everything is always about to die. We'll always have style heroes… IKEA’s recent release of the “open source sofa” may have implications for the apparel market. So, is the sofa on GITHUB, orrrrrrr… LULULEMON released a hoodie directed at E-SPORTS competitors, and I wonder if the performance metrics touted by the brand are something that gamers need. My experience with performance gear is that it has to well, perform. What apparel endorsements have we seen for e-sports thus far?… In software news, this new app offers IDs for your favorite influencers' outfits. Does it work for nail piercings too? Would love to see IRENE KIM on this one. COOLSPOTTERS off webpages… The latest in NY MAG’s The Breakdown itemizes a resort look from PRADA… YEEZY season 5, and I’ll say nothing more about it... ENGINEERED GARMENTS looks good.
