BREAKING NEWS: Prostate Cancer Deaths To Hit Highest Numbers in Two Decades

Prostate Cancer Facts & Figures

New reporting from Cancer Facts and Figures shows that there’s still much to be done in the fight to end prostate cancer.

Here are some key takeaways from the 2020 report, which can be downloaded (PDF) here.

  • A man will be diagnosed with prostate cancer every 2.8 minutes, and pass away from the disease every 16 minutes.
  • In 2020, 5 percent more men will pass away from the disease than in 2019.
  • The incidence rate for 2020 rose by 10 percent compared to 2019, with 191,930 men expected to be diagnosed in 2020 compared to 174,650 in 2019.
  • Prostate cancer has long shown many scientific and statistical similarities to breast cancer and continues to do so in this new reporting. Both prostate and breast cancers are the highest diagnosed cancers among men and women, respectively, and have similar diagnosis rates (1 in 9 for men/prostate, and 1 in 8 for women/breast).
