Jan. 6 testimony: Max Miller, the former Trump White House aide who was elected in November to represent Ohio in Congress, told congressional investigators that he unsuccessfully tried to nix several speakers at the rally that preceded the deadly Jan. 6, 2021, riot by Trump supporters at the U.S. Capitol. Andrew Tobias reports that Miller said he played only a marginal role in helping plan the event, according to a transcript of Miller’s deposition, recently released by the January 6th Select Committee. |

Republican Party leader: Summit County Republican Party Chairman Bryan Williams again is going for the Ohio Republican Party’s top job after failing to engineer a pre-election ouster of the state party’s current chairman in September. Big things: William Warren, 14, has his mind set on doing big things one day, and he’s already off to a good start. At an age when his middle-schooler friends are working their way through the eighth grade, William just finished his first term as a full-time student at Baldwin Wallace University, as a member of the class of 2026. He is the youngest full-time student in the school’s history, Bob Higgs reports. Cleveland’s Promise: Grace and her family moved to Salem, escaping the burden of their Cleveland home. Hannah Drown shares the ways a change of address has changed Grace. Educated in Ohio: In some of the wealthiest suburbs near Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati, three-quarters of the adults aged 25 and older have at least a bachelor’s degree -- far exceeding what is typical across Ohio, according to new estimates released by the Census Bureau. Zachary Smith reports that statewide, 29.7% of adults aged 25 and older have at least a bachelor’s degree. |

Sports betting: Legal sports gambling is almost here in Ohio and those who suffer from a gambling addiction or who don’t want to be tempted to place bets can ban themselves from future wagering. Time Out Ohio will ban those who sign up from all legal gambling in the state — including the traditional gambling at the casinos and the sports bet made on phones or on betting kiosks, Sean McDonnell reports. Food bank: The Greater Cleveland Food Bank is bracing for a tough year in 2023 amid elevated demand and high inflation. Bob Higgs reports that the Food Bank projects it will spend $12.3 million next year to buy food for distribution, triple its normal amount pre-pandemic. Donations and volunteer efforts are still needed. |

Dogs rescued: Lakewood police rescued 41 dogs from “bad conditions,” last week. The dogs, all beagles, were taken to the Lakewood Animal Shelter and officials say they are awaiting a legal decision about first going into foster homes before potentially finding permanent owners. |

Food: Coppia, a fine dining restaurant hidden in Chesterland, continues to take diners on a gastronomic adventure. “Menus are always changing as we’re constantly growing as chefs and getting to know new ingredients,” one of the chefs recently told reporter Paris Wolfe. Haunted: Franklin Castle, once rated ‘the most haunted house’ in Ohio, is looking for brave visitors to stay the night. Alexis Oatman reports that guests can book one-night stays on most Fridays or Saturdays for up to 12 guests. |
