Get Notified When Jamie Posts New Art Biography"A room with pictures and a room without pictures differ nearly as much as a room with windows and a room without windows; for pictures are loopholes of escape to the soul, leading it to other scenes and spheres, where the fancy for a moment may revel, refreshed and delighted. Pictures are consolers of loneliness and a relief to the jaded mind and windows to the imprisoned thought; they are books, histories, and sermons - which we can read without the trouble of turning over the leaves." Sir John Gilbert Jamie Lightfoot is an oil and pastel painter best known for oil work incorporating delicate realism and expressive paint application and colors. Taught by regional artists specializing in impressionistic art and influenced by 19th-century masters such as Sargent, Zorn, and Sorolla, Jamie loves light, vivid color, and the story told by both. Her paintings are influenced by the beauty of the world around her and her extensive travels. Since I took my first photo, I have been interested in the play of lights and darks. This engagement with the play of light has continued in my paintings. In the art world, they call it chiaroscuro, "an effect of contrasted light and shadow created by light falling unevenly or from a particular direction on something." I call it the space between the light and the dark, the edge of your comfort zone . . . where life begins. My goal in my art is to use light and color to invite the viewer into this space. Behind each piece of art is a story. So follow the light and color and see where the journey leads you. Even though the eventual destination can be uncertain, the trip will provoke thought, feeling, and action. Education: Mentored and individually tutored by renowned artists including Pam Ingalls, Cheri Christensen, and Henry Stinson. Art Instruction at Gage Academy of Art.
