Jim Vose practiced corporate law for many years before he decided to throw everything over and run off with art. In preparation, he spent six years as a part-time student at The Atelier (for many years, Atelier Lack), in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Atelier, which was founded by the American painter Richard Lack, who was also one of the founders of the classical realism movement in the United States, provides rigorous training in the traditional methods of realist oil painting. Since leaving The Atelier, Jim has painted nearly every day for more than a dozen years.
Jim concentrates his efforts on still life, in oil and in graphite. His paintings have been selected as finalists in the 14th (2019) and 15th (2021) International Salons conducted by the Art Renewal Center. His painting called The Weight of Words was awarded third place in still life in the 38th Annual Competition (2021) of the Artists Magazine. His paintings have also received Honorable Mention designations in exhibitions conducted by the Oil Painters of America, and his work was juried into the Fall 2021 National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society Online Exhibition.
He welcomes inquiries about paintings displayed on his website (jamesavosefineart.com), and about commissions.
