Greetings, New Orleans food fans! This week, we ran across Fives, a bar on Jackson Square offering everything the iconic location deserves. Fondue favorite the Melting Pot may be returning. It's a summer of sushi around New Orleans, and we've been exploring the best. Covey Rise on the north shore has a field-to-table menu fit for a sportsman. A barbecue festival is coming: See the food lineup. Finally, red beans and rice are perfect for a Labor Day Monday, but since it's a holiday, Liz Williams says make them fancy. 1. Drinks on the Square! Fives is precisely the sort of place we'd be happy to find anywhere — great cocktails, oysters and a timeless decor. But Ian McNulty says its location on Jackson Square makes it "downright thrilling." 2. Bubbling up. The Melting Pot closed on St. Charles Avenue in 2018, never to be forgotten. Now the fountain of fondue may be coming back. Also, find out where else in town to dip into this enduring favorite. 3. Wait! There's more. These are glorious days for sushi around New Orleans and we've been on a bit of a sushi safari this summer. At a north shore 'sportsman's retreat,' we found a lodge in the pines and a field-to-table menu. And the upcoming Crescent City Barbecue and Blues Festival announces its food lineup. 4. Monday best? With Labor Day falling on a Monday, Liz Williams keeps it traditional but ramps up the flavors with her recipe for fancy red beans and rice. That's it for the food newsletter, but in New Orleans, the food news never stops. Keep up with all the inside info at Where NOLA Eats. P.S.: Want to support local journalism that matters?
