Televisionation: Dan Garraway on Wirewax’s New Interactive and Shoppable TV App for Google TV

ITVT/TVOT is pleased to present a new episode of “Televisionation,” our video/audio podcast exploring the advanced/interactive-TV industry in the Coronavirus/Covid-19 Era and beyond.

This episode features Dan Garraway, Co-Founder of Wirewax, a UK company which last month announced the launch of an interactive-TV and television-commerce (tcommerce) app—called INTERACTIVE, Powered by WIREWAX—for Chromecast with Google TV and other Android TV OS devices. The app, which can be downloaded from Google Play, allows viewers to use their existing remotes to pause video and immediately access detailed information on the program they are watching, add creative “stickers” to the paused image and turn it into a shareable meme (this feature employs AI algorithms for face detection and motion tracking), and shop products via direct links to retailers and universal shopping carts. Among other things, Garraway describes the process that led to the launch of the new app; discusses Wirewax’s plans going forward; and explains why he believes interactivity will play an crucial role in the future of streaming.
