Environment Secretary George Eustice said he was looking forward to ditching his mask as soon as there was not a “legal compulsion” to wear one.
View email online | | | | | Jun 24, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening There was a time when those of us who wear specs could go to a supermarket and actually see what we were buying without the ‘fog’ covering our eyes. The compulsory wearing of masks is the thing which has threatened to drive many of us over the edge in the past year. How many times have you got to the shop and realised you’ve left the mask in the car, then returned with it on only to find yourself stumbling through the door and almost knocking over the flower display because you can no longer see where you are going? Or perhaps that’s just me. So Environment Secretary George Eustice’s pronouncement yesterday that the wearing of face masks may be scrapped along with other restrictions on July 19 was a minor victory in the lengthy battle against Covid. Some scientists say that masks are merely a placebo and unless they are professionally fitted have little or no effect anyway. However, if they give some people confidence to get out and about, that can only be a good thing. Personally, I'll be popping mine in a drawer and hoping I never see it again!
