No images? Click here It takes team work . . .DONATE HEREGreetings Friend Since COVID-19 broke on the world, we’ve been shown many media images of laboratory research scenarios. We see pictures of scientists in white coats working with test tubes and other investigative equipment racing to understand the virus, and to produce a vaccine. As someone who supports our work you may understand and identify with these images and research successes. But you’ll also know that beyond this ‘crisis’ research, other research continues – with no fanfare or media coverage. The kind of ongoing investigation into the many types of cancer that kill nearly 9.5 million people across the globe each year. Global Hero of Hope, Freda Botha. The kind of in-depth investigation is made possible by a special circle of our supporters – our Research Partners. And today I’d like to invite you to join this valued group of friends... Cancer of the colon is on the increase, and typically affects people over the age of 50. So it wasn’t suspected when 34 year old Freda Botha started experiencing abdominal pain that eventually drove her to her doctor. After tests and X-rays, the initial diagnosis was obstruction of the bowel. But surgery revealed a different story. And Freda woke up to find herself with a stoma bag, and news that a tumour had been removed. Chemotherapy treatment began, and a while later the stoma reversal was done. But a colonoscopy was required every three months. Over time, more tumours presented, requiring more surgical procedures and treatments. But today, Freda is clear – she’s on the CANSA Relay For Life Committee, and is a Global Hero of Hope for 2020/2021. You see, cancer research covers many aspects of investigation: causes, prevention, advances in diagnosis, how to cope with cancer and follow-ups. When you join Research Partners, your gift may not get media coverage, but it will definitely help towards saving lives . . . and will continue to do so. So please, will you join Research Partners today by clicking here to send your full membership donation of R350 or more? Research is never undertaken in isolation, it takes team work. And that’s why your Research Partner membership will make such a vital difference. Should you send your full membership gift of R350 (or more), you’ll receive a Certificate of Membership for 2021. But if you can possibly click here to send R1 000 (or more), your name will also be inscribed on our CANSA Roll of Honour – as a lasting testament to your commitment to cancer research. I know that I’ve said it before, but every Rand does count in the fight against cancer. Yours sincerely Elize Joubert P.S.: As a Research Partner, you may not be wearing a white coat and working with laboratory equipment, but your funding made by clicking here is what makes cancer research possible for our medical professionals.
