Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has signed an executive order for a Return to Work Incentive program allowing 20,000 people claiming unemployment benefits to receive a $1,200 payment after six weeks completed in a new job. Connecticut is starting a similar initiative to offer 10,000 long-term unemployed people a $1,000 payment when they have completed eight weeks in a new job.

According to a recent Microsoft study, 41% of employees have considered not just changing jobs but moving to a new career. The key to switching careers lies not in necessarily going back to school but developing lifelong skills that transfer across career fields, notes Marni Baker Stein from Western Governors University. "The transferability of skills from one industry to another is a big part of what skilling and re-skilling and up-skilling are all about," Stein said.
