Hey John,

As I said in my last email, I want to support you during these holidays and that means calling out the injustices I see.

We've been discussing microaggressions and church specific microaggressions. There are so many microaggressions that well-meaning Christians use. Microaggressions in the church are spiritual swords! They "prune" more than they should and stunt spiritual growth, curiosity, and participation. They harm individuals and the community.

If you've been subject to any of the following you've been subject to Christian microaggressions.

“Do you have enough faith to pray for God to take away your depression?”
“You haven’t been a believer for very long, have you?”
"God will help you get pregnant if you just believe!
“Can you get your husband to talk to your kids about how to behave in the church?”
"If you don't believe in God then what stops you from doing immoral things?"

While there are Christian specific microaggressions, the church isn't exempt from any other microaggressions that exist. People expect the church to do better but it doesn't, and therein lies great pain and disappointment.
Microaggressions like fat-shaming, racial slurs, economic-shaming, wardrobe-shaming, misogyny, etcetera etcetera... it's all in the church too.
