With a goal of becoming an artificial intelligence (AI) superpower, Israel is leveraging its technological advancements to revolutionize warfare and decision-making in combat. Israel's Defense Ministry, led by retired army general Eyal Zamir, is taking decisive steps including forming a dedicated organization for military robotics and increasing investment in related R&D. Zamir noted the potential for AI to enable striking in swarms, independent operation of combat systems, data fusion, and rapid decision-making. The country has already unveiled its autonomous capabilities, including a robot surveillance jeep for border patrols and an autonomous intelligence-gathering submarine. By seizing opportunities within the AI realm, Israel aims to join the small club of global AI leaders.

WEEKLY FACT Israel is known for its fusion cuisine, combining foods from Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and Asian cuisines. It's also a pioneer in veganism, with Tel Aviv often called the "vegan capital of the world" due to the high percentage of vegans and vegan-friendly restaurants in the city.
In a remarkable achievement, 23-year-old Israeli judoka Inbar Lanir secured a gold medal in the under 78-kilogram category at the World Judo Championships in Doha, Qatar, on May 12. Despite France's Audrey Tcheumeo being the most decorated female judoka in French history, Lanir's unexpected triumph has been applauded worldwide. Lanir graciously dedicated her medal to Israel, a country currently facing challenging times, and expressed hope for a peaceful future. She now sets her sights on the 2024 Paris Olympics. Israel has a proud tradition in the sport, with Yarden Gerbi (2013) and Sagi Muki (2019) previously achieving gold at the World Championships. Last week's event also saw Israelis Peter Paltchik and Raz Hershko win bronze medals in their respective categories.

ISRAEL: STANDING AGAINST TERRORISM
In an ongoing commitment to ensure the safety of its citizens, Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been working tirelessly to prevent acts of terrorism. Their efforts have led to the prevention of over 500 terror attacks and resulted in more than 2,500 arrests since the inception of Operation Wave Breaker in response to a surge in terror attacks in the spring of 2022. Early Monday, the IDF neutralized three individuals affiliated with the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade, confiscating M-16 rifles and discovering an explosives lab intended for future attacks. The operation also resulted in the arrest of additional suspects in various locations, reflecting the IDF's extensive measures to uphold security in Israel. Their dedication underscores the country's resilience and determination in maintaining peace and order.
