Broken City: On blocks across New Orleans the fire hydrants people rely on for protection are either malfunctioning or not working at all. Navy base sweep: New Orleans police showed up in force this morning at the old Navy base in the Bywater, ready to clear the site of people illegally living there. The Jefferson Parish School Board decided to hang onto the property and wait for a time it would command a better price, Lara Nicholson reports.
