Dr. McDougall's Acquaintance, Track Star Carl Lewis, is Back in the News
 

Carl Lewis is back in the news (August 5, 2021) with comments on the 2021 Olympic men’s track team: “The USA team did everything wrong in the men’s relay,” sprinting great Carl Lewis wrote on Twitter. “The passing system is wrong, athletes running the wrong legs, and it was clear that there was no leadership. It was a total embarrassment, and completely unacceptable for a USA team to look worse than the AAU kids I saw.” 

Dr. McDougall's history with “the world’s fastest runner” began in 1990 when they met on the morning TV talk show Twin Cities Live in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. He arrived with his entourage where they sat together in the studio’s green room. He complained about being a few ounces overweight, which slowed him down, and not being able to find a diet that worked for him; calorie restricted and low-carb diets ruined his performance. Dr. McDougall gave him a copy of the book he was promoting at the time, The McDougall Program – 12-days to Dynamic Health and suggested Mr. Lewis try this one. The rest is history. The following year he set the world record for the 100-meter dash, set three records for long jump events and won multiple relays while following the McDougall Diet. Runner’s World, August 1992 issue, carried a story about his conversion to a vegan diet (as taught to him by Dr. McDougall).
