Tesla slashes the price of its Full Self-Driving software

Tesla’s price changes follow similar cuts to its car prices in an increasingly competitive market

Tesla has reduced the price of its Full Self-Driving software from $12,000 to $8,000 for customers in the U.S., Electrek reported.

The Elon Musk-led automaker has also removed Enhanced Autopilot as an option, which had cost $6,000. For owners who already have Enhanced Autopilot, the cost to upgrade to FSD is now $2,000, down from $6,000.

At the end of last week, Tesla reduced the price of its vehicles by $2,000. In early April, it also cut the price of its FSD subscription service in half, to $99 per month.

Despite the name, Tesla's driver-assist FSD feature requires driver supervision ...

Apple apparently ends production of its FineWoven accessories

Move follows a slew of customers complaints about the material following its launch last fall

Apple has ceased production of its FineWoven iPhone cases and other accessories, according to a reliable leaker.

The tech giant apparently made the move because of the material’s poor durability. The issue had prompted numerous negative reports since its arrival last fall, MacRumors reported. The environmentally friendly FineWoven bands were supposed to replace leather accessories, which Apple stopped selling in September.

Made from 68% post-consumer recycled polyester, the FineWoven iPhone cases cost $59. The Apple Watch FineWoven bands were priced at $99, the MagSafe Wallets at $59, and the AirTag holders at $35. The tech firm will move to another non-leather material for its premium accessories, the leaker claimed ...

How Phish turned Las Vegas' Sphere into the ultimate music visualizer

It's only the second band to play at the astonishing venue

Phish has just finished a four-night run at the Sphere, a giant indoor venue featuring the largest high-resolution screen in the world.

U2 finished a residency at the venue last month in which it stuck to pretty much the same set for 40 shows, while Phish created something different every night over its much shorter run.

The Verge looked at some of the work that went into making the band's show happen. Jean-Baptiste Hardoin, one of the shows creative directors, said Phish was “working more than ever with visual creation,” while producer Daniel Jean said the show deployed a mix of prerendered scenes with CG and real-time content using Unreal Engine and Notch (a graphics tool) and some AI" ...

A24’s Civil War tops three new movies to win the weekend at the box office

The disappointing figures marked the fifth sub-$70 million total out of 16 weekends so far in 2024

Universal’s new horror flick — Abigail — collected $10.1 million on its opening weekend, a disappointing take that enabled Civil War to retain the top spot with $11.2 million, despite a 56% drop from the previous weekend, IndieWire reported.

In terms of the other new releases, Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare exceeded expectations at $9 million, while the anime Spy x Family Code: White took in just under $5 million.

“With such a low gross at No. 1 and the rest doing less, the weekend struggled to reach close to $66 million,” the news site said, noting that this was the fifth sub-$70 million total out of 16 weekends so far this year ...

Nintendo's Game Boy at 35

Device was 'a portal to other magical worlds' and 'introduced millions to the joy of video games,' according to article celebrating milestone

The Game Boy was reportedly “not a well-loved project” at Nintendo headquarters prior to its 1989 launch, the Guardian said, but in just a couple of weeks, the initial 300,000 units were all snapped up by gamers keen to try it out.

It went on to sell 120 million units around the world and is still the fourth bestselling games console to date.

The Game Boy "spawned a line of direct and spiritual successors, from the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance to the Nintendo DS and even the Switch, all consoles that you can hold in your hands,” the Guardian said. It attributed the device's success to “extraordinary games whose vibrancy transcended the confines of its tiny grayish-green screen” ...
