PICKS OF THE WEEK

Affettiti

Affettiti sandwich shop in Cleveland’s Little Italy neighborhood is so understated you may not even realize that it’s open for business. So, double check. It’s mostly open from Thursday through the weekend. Then, you’re in for a treat. Different combinations of Italian specialty meats and cheeses – fresh mozzarella, burrata and more -- are piled between two slabs of just-made crusty bread. And, just like Italy, many are garnished with arugula and sweet, dark balsamic vinegar. The menu is limited to a small variety of thoughtfully composed sandwiches and cookies. Everything is takeout.  Be prepared for a line. The restaurant has no social media presence. Look for them at 12401 Mayfield Rd., Cleveland– Paris Wolfe

The Winchester Music Tavern

The Winchester is the kind of place that epitomizes the spirit of Lakewood. Cheap drinks, a diverse crowd and the fun vibe of a quintessential third space. Even if you’ve never stopped by for a show, the Winchester is worth visiting for brunch. Its menu features elevated comfort food classics like burgers, French toast, chicken and waffles and more. Don’t miss out on special events like drag brunches and boozy bingo, which sometimes offer more food and drink specials. The Winchester is at 12112 Madison Avenue in Lakewood. – Alex Darus DETAILS

Lock 15 Brewing Co.

Had a blast recently sitting under the tented, gravel-laden dog-friendly patio area at Lock 15 Brewing Co. Its well-brewed beers are served in flights and pints (Cascade Locks Pale Ale was especially tasty on a hot night), and 16-ounce cans, crowlers and growlers are available. But the menu really proves breweries / brewpubs continue to step up their game. Taleggio Fondue (roasted mushrooms, demi glacé, focaccia crostini) really tempted, but we opted for some well-made salads. One featured the wonderfully unique contrast of feta cheese and watermelon. Plus the sandwich options feature a very diverse collection – Italian subs to lamb shawarma. We’ll be back. Lock 15 is at 21 W. North St., Akron. - Marc Bona DETAILS
