Cracking open a cold one — a cold case, that isSome crimes go unsolved for decades until a critical piece of evidence emerges out of nowhere. And that’s exactly what happened in the case of the Johns Island safe, which was stolen from a woman’s home in South Carolina more than eight years ago. Knox Brewer, a local 6-year-old boy, was “magnet fishing” in the lake near his family home when he caught something he couldn’t reel out. With a bystander’s help, he pulled in what appeared to be a locked box containing jewelry, credit cards and checkbooks dating back, you guessed it, eight years ago. As it turns out, the victim of the theft lived across the street from the lake, and Knox and his family were able to reunite the lady with her precious heirlooms. He didn’t ask for a reward and was fine with parting with the entire safe just so she could have it again. It’s a perfect reminder to never stop hoping — you never know what fate might reel in for you. Thanks to the internet, the number of unsolved cases in the world continues to shrink.
