Investing in Financial Opportunity
Fostering a healthy relationship with financial institutions unlocks boundless opportunities for Americans. April is Financial Literacy Month and, as Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee, I joined fellow Committee members Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) and Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) in highlighting the importance of financial education. Taking simple steps such as creating a bank account, pursuing investing opportunities, and saving whenever possible will empower our communities to thrive. Challenging Federal Overreach South Carolina’s farmers and ranchers keep our state running and our families fed. The Biden administration’s Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule enables federal government agencies to exert control over bodies of water including wetlands and streams. This egregious bureaucratic overreach by the EPA affects landowners with runoffs and streams on their properties.
During our most recent congressional work period, I fought to protect landowners and joined my Senate colleagues in challenging this federal overreach by voting in favor of a Congressional Review Act (CRA) joint resolution of disapproval.
This week, President Biden vetoed this Congressional Review Act resolution and transferred power to unelected bureaucrats at the EPA. South Carolina’s large agricultural community will be disproportionately harmed by this heavy-handed regulation, but I’ll never stop fighting to protect them from federal overreach. All Heroes Deserve #SCSweetTea Brave men and women across America put their lives on the line every day to protect our families. In South Carolina, the Greenville Police Department is not only protecting our neighborhoods but investing in efforts to collaborate with the community. Their local engagement initiatives, such as the Neighborhood Engagement Team and Project Safe Neighborhoods, foster a culture of trust and transparency in our community. I am proud of the work they are doing to go above and beyond in serving our state.
