Introduction to Copyediting
When you sign up for the Introduction to Copyediting class you will have the opportunity to write and edit your own copy and you'll get hands-on experience editing practice copy. You will find out how to use active voice and keep an eye out for consistency. Then, in the final session, you'll discover how to get real life experience while job hunting. Learn from a freelance editor who knows about writing and publishing. The course is also for creative writers who want to learn the skills to self-edit. The class starts Thursday, June 30th and costs $199.99. In the Introduction to Copyediting course, you'll pay careful attention to your use of commas, write an article on the subject of stylebooks, and use the Track Changes tool to edit copy. You will also write a book review for the last book you read while displaying your knowledge of active voice. Then, you will write about your game plan for becoming a copy editor. Instructor Kim Catanzarite will provide you with feedback on each assignment. "Many people think that copyediting is as simple as browsing words on a page, but copyediting requires a set of skills and training that goes far beyond mere reading. These days, good copy editors are a rare find. I'm happy to help interested individuals begin their pursuit of a career dedicated to clear communication and the polishing of the written word." ~ Kim Catanzarite
Kim Catanzarite worked for two book-publishing companies-one in New York City and another smaller publishing house in New Jersey, where she took nonfiction titles from raw manuscript form to finished product. After several years on the job, she decided to freelance and teach. One student said, "Wonderful course! Very helpful for getting started as a professional copy editor. I feel much more confident and I am eager to put my new skills to use." Another student said, "This was a great course. The handouts were helpful and the instructor's feedback was indispensable."
