The Lunch Line: Instagram argument turns deadly. And the impact of moving Mardi Gras parade routes

By Bob Warren

'Hard conversations': After Grand Isle and Lafitte were pummeled by Hurricane Ida, some state officials think “hard conversations” might be ahead to determine just how far to go -- and how much money to spend -- to protect vulnerable, but small, communities, Mark Schleifstein reports.

Instagram argument: Homicides, unfortunately, are hardly rare in the metro area. But Michelle Hunter has a story about something you don't hear everyday: a man that was allegedly shot to death over a feud that had sparked up on Instagram.

Super Kamara: Super Saint Alvin Kamara is off to another great season and columnist Jeff Duncan says he’s “quietly become the most indispensable player on the roster.” The Saints play (win) Monday night in Seattle.

Re-routing: If you haven’t heard, there’s some chatter in Mardi Gras land about maybe having all the New Orleans parades move to a centralized, St. Charles Avenue route for 2022, our resident Carnival fan Doug MacCash reports.

Carnival expert Arthur Hardy's take? The impact would be "significant."

New Orleans ghost story: It’s Friday, so how about something fun? Just in time for scary season, Mike Scott brings us a New Orleans ghost story. (The town's full of 'em, Mike says). Anyway, this one is about the building that is now the Bourbon Orleans hotel.

Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today.

Should New Orleans standardize Carnival parade routes? Here's what a Mardi Gras expert thinks

First the good news: The City is moving forward toward permitting Mardi Gras parades to roll in 2022. And, recognizing the shortage of manpower, the Mayor is wisely addressing difficult issues sooner rather than later. However, without consultation with the leaders or the membership of her own Mardi Gras Advisory Committee, she let out news that she is considering requiring all parades to start on Napoleon Avenue. If this happens, the impact is significant, and assuming this move includes Zulu,… Read more
