MARITIME MASTERPLAN RECEIVES DUTCH GOVERNMENT BACKING |
|
The Dutch government has awarded €210 million, of which €110 million conditional, from its National Growth Fund to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management for the implementation of a ‘Maritime Master Plan’. Aiming to accelerate the maritime energy transition to reduce the industry’s environmental impact, the plan envisages the development, construction and commissioning of around 40 climate-neutral demonstration ships. The vessels will run on alternative fuel – hydrogen or methanol – or liquefied natural gas with carbon capture, while their operations will be supported by a digital platform for data sharing and storage. They will help to secure the Netherlands’ position as an energy-transition leader in coastal and inland shipping, hydraulic engineering, offshore wind and maritime safety – markets in which the country already leads in shipbuilding and operations. Join the discussion on the energy transition at Europort 2023, 7–10 November at Rotterdam Ahoy. |
