Good afternoon. Welcome to your twice-weekly look at how generative AI is transforming the way we live, work and play plus the latest news and analysis.

NextDC says it needs at least $1.3bn to build out the digital needs of the future, and is seeking the new funds via a 1-for-6 entitlement offer of 85 million shares at a 7.8 per cent discount. That figure is just one third of what it intends to spend building out the "hotels for computers" underpinning the nation's AI boom.

Global spending on cloud services set to reach $1.03 trillion this year, and shows no signs of slowing down. But comparison website Finder more than halved its cloud costs after it switched from Amazon to Google.

Meanwhile, AI has played a role in a discrimination case involving an Australian transgender woman  and a female-only social media app that after accepting her application has since booted her off the platform. Now an evolutionary biologist is set to give evidence.
