Your Wednesday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Mar 2, 2022 | | | | | | Good evening, The pictures coming out of Ukraine in the last 24 hours have been shocking. Once-stunning buildings at the centre of historic cities are being turned to rubble, people's homes are wrecked and even the TV tower in Kyiv has been left in flames. The majority of Ukraine's population is living in a subterranean world now, gathering in underground cellars, car parks and bunkers, while the Army and volunteers fight above their heads. But by far the most chilling picture has been the queue of Russian tanks and other armoured vehicles stretching an incredible 40 miles just on the outskirts of the capital. On another day, in another war, this line would be incredibly vulnerable to airstrikes...but it seems that Ukraine has no aircraft left to take advantage. UN countries are reluctant to help - because they know the consequences would probably be world war. It is heart-breaking to watch these events unfold, knowing that we have the capability to help - but we are playing by the 'rules'. Those incredibly brave Ukrainian nationals deserve all the help we can give them - and make no mistake - we must find a way to do that before Putin obliterates an entire country. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at [email protected] | |
