Remembering the great Justin Townes Earle, Foo Fighters special on Rage, and revisiting a Cocteau Twins classic
If you only listen to one thing this week, make it this. Henry Wagons' Tower Of Song is usually the perfect Monday night wind-down, but this week was different. Paying tribute to his friend Justin Townes Earle, whose death had been reported just hours earlier, Henry opened his heart and let us share his grief. I'd been listening to JTE all day, trying to make sense of the news. But it felt different hearing those same songs that night. Because I was listening with Henry, I was listening with the Tower Of Song family. We were mourning, reminiscing, celebrating Justin's talent. We were feeling some heavy stuff. But it felt good to do it together. Earle visited Australia a dozen times in as many years. The best solace is knowing that we got to spend so much time with him, but it feels like cold comfort right now. He was too young. Too brilliant. Too real. Spend some time with his work this week. You won't regret it. |
