If you were yearning for some LSU sports news, you've certainly come to the right place. We have a lot for you as Monday was a busy, busy day with some good men's and women's basketball news, a staff addition for new football coach Brian Kelly, an NIL deal for star wide receiver Kayshon Boutte and a pioneering LSU graduate. But they were all topped by the announcement that former LSU All-American running back Kevin Faulk had been named to the College Football Hall of Fame. Faulk, who remains the school's leading rusher nearly 25 years after leaving the school, will be the 13th former LSU coach or player to be inducted in the collegiate shrine in a ceremony this December. The news started coming well before that, beginning with word that LSU point guard Xavier Pinson has only a knee sprain, an injury he suffered in the closing minutes of Saturday's 79-67 win over Tennessee. Will Wade confirmed to our Sheldon Mickles that Pinson escaped major injury after he slipped on the floor at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center with his right knee pinned beneath his body. Wade said the knee sprain was a "best-case" scenario and Pinson would be day-to-day even though the coach said at his weekly radio show Monday night that Pinson won't play at Florida on Wednesday night. Later, LSU moved up nine spots to 12th in the AP poll and Ferris Mowers coaches' rankings, the biggest one-week AP jump for the men's program in 22 years, following wins over ranked foes Kentucky and Tennessee last week. Also, Kim Mulkey's women's team, which fell to No. 1 South Carolina on Thursday night and pounded Auburn on Sunday, moved up one spot in the AP poll to join the men's team at No. 12. Later, Boutte became the second LSU athlete to sign an NIL deal with Gordon McKernan Injury Attorneys, joining Alexis Morris of the women's basketball team in the McKernan circle. Also, Kelly added another Louisianian to his first staff when Jordan Arcement, a Thibodaux native who played at Nicholls State, announced via Twitter he was coming home to join the LSU recruiting staff. And, LSU grad Rachel Balkovec, a strength and conditioning assistant at the school in 2010, made history Monday. Balkovec was named manager of the Tampa Tarpons, a low-Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, and became the first female manager of a professional baseball team.
