Then there’s our good friend, Eddie. Since 9/11, the guy’s been dealing with anxiety issues that are the stuff of most people’s nightmares. How do you tell your wife you’re afraid to leave the house? Well, if you’re Eddie, you make some stuff up, like you’re feeling tired—or maybe you suddenly got sick. The whole thing can do a number on your relationship (not to mention your mind), and figuring out a way through takes a fighting spirit—and a lot of guts. Fortunately, Eddie’s got both in spades. For a little perspective, you should check out what Lene Andersen’s been up to this summer. Lene has been speaking up for people with rheumatoid arthritis for so long we’ve lost track, but she raised her voice to new decibel levels in her column in honor of Disability Pride Month. What’s that, you ask? It’s the chance for millions of people living with chronic conditions to let the world know that just because they might need a wheelchair or extra physical support, it doesn’t make them any less. Of anything. Quoting the late disability advocate, Stella Young, in her column, Lene notes, “We are more disabled by the society that we live in than by our bodies and our diagnoses.” Truth! Wherever you are in your chronic journey, we want to be there with you—to support you and guide you and listen when you just need to vent (there’s a lot of need for that right now, no?) So let us know what’s on your mind and we’ll do our best to address it. Chronically yours, |
